People's Voice Featured Business Column: Stay Tuned

Greetings Parkers! I am Lucy Frye from Nandi’s Knowledge Cafe. I have committed to writing an article every other week or so for the Highland Park People’s Voice featuring a member or members of the business community of Highland Park. Some businesses I have selected to feature in the next few months include:

• The doctors in the Detroit Medical Center offices on Woodward,

• The Highland Park Business Association, a resource for businesses in Highland Park.

I am particularly looking forward to tasting the fare and meeting the owners of the local restaurants that have emerged in Highland Park over the past couple of years. I’m looking at YOU, Mr. Corned Beef, Juicy Seafood, Roscoe’s Soul Food, Lynettte’s Seafood and Cakes and Shakes, etc.

I am passionate about small local businesses in Highland Park for many reasons, but perhaps most especially because I own a small business in Highland Park. A lot of people around town call me Nandi and my business, Nandi’s Knowledge Cafe has become something of a Highland Park institution over the past 21 years. We used to be on Woodward Avenue but a few years back I bought my own space at 71 Oakman Blvd. Nandi’s Knowledge Cafe specializes in books, African art and delicious food. The cafe has a wide, beautiful room that seats over 150, which is available for meetings and events. We are also a venue for music and poetry; every Thursday night is Poetry Night at Nandi’s, starting at 9:00 pm.
